Transportation Drivers

Transportation drivers are needed for the wheelchair accessible vans including maneuvering and strapping down wheelchairs. Drivers will use the Senior Services vehicles and generally volunteer one day a week Monday-Friday. Volunteers will drive older adults to doctor's appointments and for general errands. Subsequent background checks and driver's license checks are required as well as a 1-hour orientation/training. By Expressing Interest volunteers will be contacted to set up a ride along with an experienced driver to understand the process.

Blood Drive Volunteer - Bay County

Provide a warm, friendly greeting and instruct the blood donor in registration procedures Maintain canteen area and be alert and notify Red Cross staff if a donor does not appear to be feeling well Help schedule appointments for the next blood drive and encourage new volunteer sign up Volunteers are required to attend one blood drive per month for a minimum of 6 months. PPE, health screenings and social distancing protocols are all in place to protect our volunteers, clients and staff.

Local Disaster Volunteer - Bay County

We help people affected by disasters ranging from home fires to hurricanes by providing food, shelter, clothing, comfort and hope. Each year, volunteers respond to approx. 2,300 local disaster across the state of Michigan. Disaster Action Team Member (DAT): DAT Members work on a scheduled, on-call basis and respond to disasters in their local community/geographical area Responders are expected to answer emergency calls and respond while on-duty in a Red Cross vehicle Work with clients to begin the recovery casework process Day and overnight shifts are available 24/7 – 365 days a year. Length of shift will vary by geographic area. Training is provided.

On-Call Community Volunteers

United Way of Midland County is creating a volunteer list to help connect people with those who are willing to help our neighbors. By registering, you are showing your interest in being contacted for various volunteer opportunities of interest as they arise. We will keep your information on file should an opportunity become available that sounds like a great fit for you. Tutors Needed

The Legacy Center provides one-on-one tutoring to individuals from our community in Reading, Math, English as a Second Language, and Workforce Readiness Skills. Since the pandemic and schools closing early, some students are struggling with the current school year. Also, many people lost their jobs and may need new skills to find the right fit. Volunteers are asked to dedicate 2 hours per week to tutoring for approximately one year.

Meals On Wheels Drivers

Meals On Wheels drivers are needed for Senior Services throughout the county. Volunteers would be delivering meals right around lunchtime for the the Coleman Center in Coleman and Greendale Center in the West Midland Family Center. Volunteers use their own vehicles, mileage is reimbursed. Most drivers take one route a week(Monday-Friday) taking about 2 hours starting at 10:30 am or 11 am until about 12:30 pm or 1 pm. Regular drivers and substitute drivers are needed too. Due to the vulnerable population, Senior Services does not take court appointed community service volunteers. There is training, a background check and driver’s license check. By Expressing Interest volunteers will be contacted by Senior Services Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, Tina Podboy-Laughner to set up a route.

Volunteer Drivers Needed

Cancer Services offers free transportation to cancer patients. There is a greater need for drivers from the Clare and Gladwin areas. Training and an orientation is provided and mileage reimbursement is offered. By becoming a volunteer with Cancer Services, you have the flexibility of creating your own schedule; one that fits you and your lifestyle. You also have the opportunity to give back to your community.

Ready to Go Volunteers

If you live in Midland, Clare, or Gladwin County, and have a desire to make a difference in the lives of those who live with cancer, as well as their loved ones, please consider volunteering for Cancer Services. Cancer Services, working with more than 550 active clients, is able to provide the assistance and support they need with the help of volunteers. The organization is generating a list of volunteers interested and able to contribute time and energy, easing the stress of the lives of cancer patients. Volunteer activities can include yard work, grocery shopping or other household tasks. Expressing Interest below will allow us to expedite assistance to clients as volunteer opportunities arise.

Volunteer Intake Specialist (Virtual)

The volunteer intake specialist plays a vital role in the onboarding process of new Red Cross members across all lines of service. This remote opportunity will help support the Michigan Region by: calling/emailing prospective volunteers to screen for appropriate positions enter and maintain information in online database weekly communication with Red Cross staff for status updates and support Training is provided and scheduling is flexible. This position requires a minimum 6-month commitment.
